Dum­fries and Kirkcud­bright Pres­bytery

Songs of Praise ser­vice was con­ducted by the Rev­erend J. Stu­art Mill, Moder­a­tor of Dum­fries and Kirkcud­bright Pres­bytery, on Septem­ber 16 at Thorn­hill Par­ish Church.

The moder­a­tor is min­is­ter of Thorn­hill, Duris­deer, Pen­pont, Tyn­ron and Keir Par­ish Churches.

There was a warm wel­come and call to wor­ship. Hymn: Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven. The first Old Tes­ta­ment read­ing was by Mar­garet Irv­ing. Hymn: What a friend we have in Je­sus.

The next epis­tle read­ing was by El­iz­a­beth McMil­lan. Hymn: Lord, the light of your love is shin­ing. With the third gospel read­ing by Arthur Mil­ton. Hymn: Lord, for the years your love has kept and guided.

The fi­nal les­son of read­ing by Rev John Not­man. Hymn: Oh, for a closer walk with God. Prayers of si­lence and med­i­ta­tion took place.

The moder­a­tor spoke of St Ninian as Septem­ber 16 is known as St Ninian’s day. Born in 360 AD he died in 432 AD. There is a ma­jor shrine to St Ninian in the Whithorn Pri­ory.

The theme of the ser­vice was re­lated to thank­ful­ness and of Paul’s jour­ney to Dam­as­cus and his rev­e­la­tion of Chris­tian­ity. Hymn: O for a thou­sand tongues, to sing, with the clos­ing hymn Ye that know the Lord is gra­cious.

The ser­vice con­cluded with the bene­dic­tion. The mu­si­cal ac­com­pa­nist was Mr Colin Bell.

On Pres­bytery Sun­day, Songs of Praise unites the Pres­bytery of Dum­fries and Kirkcud­bright, with the shar­ing of wor­ship to­gether.

The moder­a­tor ex­tended an in­vite, for ev­ery­one to at­tend the re­cep­tion at the close of ser­vice.

Thanks to the Rev­erend Mill and all the par­ish churches, for a won­der­ful evening of fel­low­ship.
