Juniors compete in South event
Eleven boys and a girl took part in the South of Scotland Golfers’ Association Junior Jamboree at Southerness on Friday, October 26.
The course was in superb condition for those taking part – Ellie Harkness, Colin McKenzie, Russell Corrie, Russell Kingsley, Charlie Maxwell, Ben Carmichael, Liam Graham, Evan Wells, Adam Scott (all Lochmaben), Mitchell Cowie, Ciaran Howat and Rory Gordon (all D&C).
With the sun shining and a slight cold north wind the early starters got the best of the day as by mid-round the weather got colder and the wind stronger.
Mitchell Cowie (D&C), the South Junior Champion playing very steadily and leaving the driver in the bag, produced a magnificent outward nine 33, two under par with birdies at the first and fifth.
He came back in 37, three over par with one birdie at the last to finish with 70. Ciaran Howat (D&C) dropped a few shots in each half but still managed to sign for a 77.
In the handicap section, Russell Kingsley (Lochmaben) had a superb round of (80-14=66) to beat the par of 69 by three shots and easily take the honours.
Other good scores were recorded by Charlie Maxwell ( Lochmaben) ( 90- 19= 71), Ben Carmichael (Lochmaben) (87-13=74) and Rory Gordon (D&C) (88-12=76).
The CSS for boys was 71 and 74 for girls Prizewinners Girls handicap: Ellie Harkness (96-14=82). Boys handicap: 1 Russell Kingsley (Lochmaben) (80-14=66); 2 Charlie Maxwell (Lochmaben) (9019=71); 3 Ben Carmichael (Lochmaben) (8713=74); 4 Rory Gordon (D&C) (88-12=76).
Boys scratch: 1 Mitchell Cowie (D&C) 70; 2 Ciaran Howat (D&C) 77.
