Ju­niors com­pete in South event

Eleven boys and a girl took part in the South of Scot­land Golfers’ As­so­ci­a­tion Ju­nior Jam­boree at South­er­ness on Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 26.

The course was in su­perb con­di­tion for those tak­ing part – El­lie Hark­ness, Colin McKen­zie, Rus­sell Cor­rie, Rus­sell Kings­ley, Char­lie Max­well, Ben Carmichael, Liam Gra­ham, Evan Wells, Adam Scott (all Lochmaben), Mitchell Cowie, Ciaran Howat and Rory Gor­don (all D&C).

With the sun shin­ing and a slight cold north wind the early starters got the best of the day as by mid-round the weather got colder and the wind stronger.

Mitchell Cowie (D&C), the South Ju­nior Cham­pion play­ing very steadily and leav­ing the driver in the bag, pro­duced a mag­nif­i­cent out­ward nine 33, two un­der par with birdies at the first and fifth.

He came back in 37, three over par with one birdie at the last to fin­ish with 70. Ciaran Howat (D&C) dropped a few shots in each half but still man­aged to sign for a 77.

In the hand­i­cap sec­tion, Rus­sell Kings­ley (Lochmaben) had a su­perb round of (80-14=66) to beat the par of 69 by three shots and eas­ily take the hon­ours.

Other good scores were recorded by Char­lie Max­well ( Lochmaben) ( 90- 19= 71), Ben Carmichael (Lochmaben) (87-13=74) and Rory Gor­don (D&C) (88-12=76).

The CSS for boys was 71 and 74 for girls Prizewin­ners Girls hand­i­cap: El­lie Hark­ness (96-14=82). Boys hand­i­cap: 1 Rus­sell Kings­ley (Lochmaben) (80-14=66); 2 Char­lie Max­well (Lochmaben) (9019=71); 3 Ben Carmichael (Lochmaben) (8713=74); 4 Rory Gor­don (D&C) (88-12=76).

Boys scratch: 1 Mitchell Cowie (D&C) 70; 2 Ciaran Howat (D&C) 77.
