Trib­utes have been paid to a Cas­tle Dou­glas-based his­to­rian fol­low­ing his sud­den death.

Alistair Liv­ingston passed away on Satur­day fol­low­ing a short ill­ness. He was 60.

Friends on Face­book de­scribed him as “a won­der­ful man who will be much missed in our com­mu­nity” and “a man for whom ‘scholar and gen­tle­man’ might have been in­vented”.

Alistair re­cently won Dum­friesshire and Gal­loway Nat­u­ral His­tory and An­ti­quar­ian So­ci­ety’s Truck­ell Prize for his es­say “Re­assess­ing the Gal­loway Lev­ellers”.

His fu­neral will be held on Tues­day at the Gordon Me­mo­rial Hall in Cas­tle Dou­glas at 1.30pm.
