As­sault charges

A Ste­wartry man has been ac­cused of as­sault­ing a wo­man and a child.

James McClurg, of Ewart Place, Springholm, is al­leged to have be­haved in a threat­en­ing man­ner to­wards the wo­man by shout­ing and swear­ing at her.

And it is claimed he as­saulted her by seiz­ing her body, butting her on the head and punch­ing her in Crif­fel Road, Dum­fries, on July 3.

He is also al­leged to have as­saulted a 14-year-old on the same date.

The 40-year-old has also been charged with hav­ing a lock knife, in Bur­nett Av­enue, Dum­fries on July 4.

He is fur­ther ac­cused of steal­ing a gar­den or­na­ment and a pair of train­ers from an ad­dress in Crif­fel Av­enue, Dum­fries, be­tween July 3 and 4 and, on July 4, he is al­leged to have re­sisted two po­lice of­fi­cers.

McClurg pleaded not guilty to all six charges against him and Sher­iff Colm Dempsey set trial for Au­gust 27.

He was al­lowed bail with con­di­tions which in­cluded not en­ter­ing Crif­fel Road.

● A Cas­tle Dou­glas man has ad­mit­ted sup­ply­ing drugs in the town.

Scott Bar­bour, 37, of Don­ald Court, pleaded guilty to be­ing con­cerned in the sup­ply of di­amor­phine be­tween De­cem­ber 1, 2019, and Fe­bru­ary 19, 2020, at Don­ald Court and other addresses.

He also ad­mit­ted to be­ing in pos­ses­sion of cannabis. Bar­bour will face trial on two other charges which he denies.

He is ac­cused of ob­struct­ing two po­lice of­fi­cers by throw­ing a con­tainer of a quan­tity of con­trolled sub­stances from a win­dow at Don­ald Court on Fe­bru­ary 19 this year.

On the same date Bar­bour, de­nied hav­ing cannabis resin in his pos­ses­sion.

Trial has been set for Au­gust 5 and Bar­bour was re­leased on bail.
