Iconic tower house on market for £1m
A 19th century tower house offering stunning views of the Solway has gone on the market for more than £1 million.
Balcary Tower near Auchencairn comes complete with a boathouse, seawater swimming pool and 19 acres of land.
The C-listed tower was built around 1860 by Colonel Johnstone, the Laird of Auchencairn House.
It is believed to have been built for his French mistress who was also a governess to the family.
The tower is on a rock promontory at the entrance to Balcary Bay and is as close as it comes to living on an island without having to leave the shore.
The property is being marketed by Galbraith and partner David Corrie said: “Balcary Tower has all the elements to create a wonderful lifestyle in a superb and secluded coastal setting.
“Refurbished with the attention to detail and sympathy a property such as this deserves, the tower offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire a unique property in impeccable condition.”
As well as direct beach access, Balcary Tower has fantastic views of Balcary Bay and Hestan Island as well as a rockcut swimming pool which fills naturally with sea water.
