The Galloway News - - School News - STUART GILLESPIE

The school holidays officially began in Dumfries and Galloway last week.

Kids and parents have been tackling home schooling since March due to the coronavirus pandemic and are no doubt delighted to now enjoy some time off.

The end of term celebrations were rather different from normal due to lockdown and social distancing, so here is how the occasion was marked across the Stewartry.

Primary seven pupils at Gatehouse held a socially distanced farewell with a takeaway night.

The kids were delighted to see each other and had a fantastic time.

Palnackie Primary held an open-air end of term assembly.

It was led by head teacher Mrs Alexander with families coming together for the first time since lockdown – albeit socially distanced.

The parent council presented hoodies and calculators to the P7 leavers and made a special presentation to retiring class teacher Mrs Brown before putting on a wonderful afternoon tea for staff.

Colvend Primary staff were sad not to see their pupils at the end of term so decided to drive in a convoy around the catchment area.

Their cavalcade travelled from Sandyhills to Dalbeattie via Barend, Rockcliffe and Kippford with their cars adorned with balloons and streamers.

Pupils and their families came out to cheer as staff stopped en route to distribute new school uniforms, hand out class work and drop off some treats.

A socially distanced community event was held at Kirkgunzeon Primary to celebrate the only P7 pupil moving to Dalbeattie High School.

Clark Maxwell received a calculator from the parent council and friends and fellow pupils spaced themselves through the village to cheer him on with posters and placards as he was driven through the well wishers by his family.

It was a unique and emotional event for staff, pupils and their families to see each other, many for the first time since lockdown. he school community wishes Clark every success on his move.
