The long years of fascism

The Guardian - Review - - Review -

It is sadly untrue, as Patrick McGrath claims, that in 1949 “the fascist movement in Britain was effectively finished” (Point of view, 9 September). In 1948 Mosley launched the Union Movement and continued to draw large crowds for another 18 years. It was not until 1966 that Mosley made his last parliamentary pitch, for Shoreditch and Finsbury, when he lost his deposit. He gave up leadership of the UM, bringing about its effective end.
