Outcry forces Weibo to reverse gay ban
10 One of China’s largest social media sites, Sina Weibo, reversed a ban on online content “related to homosexuality” after an outcry from users.
Last Friday, Sina Weibo said it would remove content “with pornographic implications, promoting bloody violence, or related to homosexuality”. In response, users posted photos with their partners, comments and rainbow emojis. Many quoted China’s constitution and laws about the protection of minorities.
Following the deluge Sina Weibo said on Monday its campaign would now exclude gay content.
