Ronaldo accused of rape

A 34-year-old American, Kathryn Mayorga, who alleges that Cristiano Ronaldo raped her, has revealed details of the events she claims took place in Las Vegas in 2009. Mayorga claims the superstar footballer forced her to have sex with him in the bathroom of his penthouse suite, despite repeatedly being told not to. Mayorga also revealed the protracted legal process by which she subsequently agreed to settle the claims. It was an agreement that, her lawyers claim, was never honoured by Ronaldo.

Mayorga said in an interview with Der Spiegel that she had chosen to go public in the wake of the #MeToo revelations. Ronaldo categorically denies all the allegations and says that sex between the pair was consensual. His lawyer, Christian Schertz, said the Spiegel report “is manifestly illegal” and he would be seeking damages.
