Aug 10 The Po­laroid

plant at Dum­bar­ton, which fought off clo­sure plans in the open­ing years of the new mil­len­nium, is ramp­ing up its eye­wear man­u­fac­tur­ing work­force as it tar­gets huge op­por­tu­ni­ties in the 3D cin­ema and tele­vi­sion mar­kets. Po­laroid Eye­wear at Dum­bar­ton, now owned by US sun­glasses com­pany StyleMark, sur­vived when decades of film and cam­era pro­duc­tion at the 45year-old site at Vale of Leven In­dus­trial Es­tate came to an end in 2006.
