John Lewis yes­ter­day re­ported “out­stand­ing” Christ­mas sales with its three Scot­tish stores out­per­form­ing those in other parts of the UK. The com­pany, which serves as a barom­e­ter for high street re­tail­ers, did not pub­lish sep­a­rate fig­ures for its stores in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glas­gow, but Barry Mathe­son, man­ag­ing di­rec­tor for Edinburgh and Aberdeen, said the em­ployee-owned depart­ment store chain turned in “an out­stand­ing per­for­mance” north of the Bor­der in the five weeks to Jan­uary 1.
