Support for those first crucial years
Existing businesses and those thinking of a start-up have access to help at various stages of the process
BUSINESSES throughout Lanarkshire can rely on assistance from dedicated professional advisers, thanks to the work of Business Gateway. Operating from headquarters in Coatbridge, the team supports existing businesses, helping them to grow, and works with individuals interested in starting a business.
Local businesses meeting specific g rowth criteria are assigned an adviser who will support the business through their business improvement. This may include advising the company on strategy and core activities, such as digital and traditional marketing, finance raising, business planning or operational systems and processes.
Where appropriate, and where eligibility criteria are met, the Business Gateway team can help access funding and business support programmes delivered by the local authorities and Scottish Enterprise.
North and South Lanarkshire Councils can provide local discretionary grants and loans to assist with training, consultancy, capital and infrastructure improvements. Businesses trading in the rural South Lanarkshire area and independent town centre businesses in North Lanarkshire may also be eligible for support.
Financial assistance is also available to support businesses regarding recruitment through North Lanarkshire’s Working and South Lanarkshire Works 4 U.
For individuals thinking about starting a business, advisers can also help with practical advice and guidance on a range of topics, including market research, planning, financial forecasting, company formation and employing staff.
Advisers who work with new start businesses operate at various locations throughout Lanarkshire including Coatbridge, Motherwell, Hamilton and East Kilbride – simply make an appointment, if you would like to discuss your business idea.
Advisers also provide aftercare advice. One-to-one meetings are available to address specific business issues, which should help with the challenges of the first year or two and allow for potentially greater success and profitability
