Firms urged to take on ap­pren­tices

EM­PLOY­ERS across Scot­land will be en­cour­aged to em­ploy more Mod­ern Ap­pren­tices as the third Scot­tish Ap­pren­tice­ship Week gets un­der way on Mon­day, May 20.

Skills De­vel­op­ment Scot­land wants to work with bosses to re­cruit 25,000 new Mod­ern Ap­pren­tices – match­ing the 25,000 train­ing last year across more than 80 dif­fer­ent oc­cu­pa­tions.

Com­pa­nies have joined col­leges, lo­cal au­thor­i­ties and sec­tor skills coun­cils to or­gan­ise events through­out the week.

Skills De­vel­op­ment Scot­land chair­per­son John McClel­land said: “The main aims of Scot­tish Ap­pren­tice­ship Week are to show em­ploy­ers the tan­gi­ble ben­e­fits Mod­ern Ap­pren­tices can bring to their busi­nesses, as well as giv­ing peo­ple a vi­tal start in their ca­reers.”
