Blair and Barclay ready for final push
MIKE BLAIR and John Barclay are both expected to face Italy at Rome’s Olympic Stadium today after undergoing thorough fitness testing according to Andy Robinson, the Scotland team’s head coach.
“Blair has passed every step so far,” he said ahead of yesterday’s team run.
“There’s been a progression – stage one was last night, treatments and some passing – got through stage two this morning and stage three is the team run. So far he’s progressed well.
“John Barclay will have a fitness test on his ribs but we expect him to be fine. He trained with us on Wednesday.”
As he finalised the preparations for Scotland’s first ever “whitewash decider”, Robinson insisted that the same basics that he has sought to insist upon throughout the championship remain the key to victory today.
“What do we need to do... score more points than the opposition,” he said.
“That will occur by not giving Italy penalties at scrum-time. We’ve got to be very physical and scrum as an eight, they’ll try the double shove and we have to make our tackles and put them on the floor but have
