Archibald earns Great Bri­tain team pur­suit chance for Rio Olympics

KATIE ARCHIBALD has been con­firmed in a 26-strong Bri­tish cy­cling squad for this sum­mer’s Olympic Games af­ter be­ing handed a place in the team pur­suit.

The 22-year-old from Mil­gavnie, who missed March’s world cham­pi­onships due to in­jury, joins Lon­don 2012 gold medal­lists Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell Shand, plus fel­low world cham­pi­ons Becky James and Eli­nor Barker, in the line-up for the event.

Seven-time Olympic medal­list Sir Bradley Wig­gins re­turns to the track af­ter claim­ing time trial gold at Lon­don 2012 and he will be joined by for­mer world cham­pion Mark Cavendish who pre­vi­ously landed bronze in Bei­jing eight years ago.

Chris Froome will go for a sec­ond Olympic medal in the road race while Ja­son Kenny, Ed Clancy, Phillip Hin­des and Steven Burke will also aim to ex­pand their haul.
