Archibald earns Great Britain team pursuit chance for Rio Olympics
KATIE ARCHIBALD has been confirmed in a 26-strong British cycling squad for this summer’s Olympic Games after being handed a place in the team pursuit.
The 22-year-old from Milgavnie, who missed March’s world championships due to injury, joins London 2012 gold medallists Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell Shand, plus fellow world champions Becky James and Elinor Barker, in the line-up for the event.
Seven-time Olympic medallist Sir Bradley Wiggins returns to the track after claiming time trial gold at London 2012 and he will be joined by former world champion Mark Cavendish who previously landed bronze in Beijing eight years ago.
Chris Froome will go for a second Olympic medal in the road race while Jason Kenny, Ed Clancy, Phillip Hindes and Steven Burke will also aim to expand their haul.
