Rangers sign keeper Alnwick for £250k
RANGERS have had a £250,000 bid for Port Vale keeper Jak Alnwick accepted, thus triggering his release clause in the player’s contract, writes Stewart Weir.
The 23-year-old is expected in Glasgow shortly to conclude a deal to bring him to Ibrox on what is thought to be a three-year contract.
Alnwick, who started his career at Newcastle United, is currently co-captain at Port Vale.
The former England Under-17 and Under-18 cap is seen as a replacement for Matt Gilks, who was told he could leave the club during this window and considered surplus to requirements by manager Mark Warburton, having only signed him in the summer.
Gilks is expected to depart for Wigan Athletic.
However, the arrival of another goalkeeper has left many Gers fans bemused, believing the team needs strengthening in other areas, in particular, central defence.
