Hutchesons, in a grade A-listed building on Glasgow’s Ingram Street, has been refurbished. The Grand Hall dining room is now known as the City Grill while the cafe bar is the speakeasy-style 158 Club Lounge. Owners James and Louise Rusk say the restaurants will still major on Scottish steak and seafood. Wine bars in Edinburgh are enjoying a revival and a few weeks backs David Ramsden expanded out from The Dogs to launch The Fat Pony on Bread Street. Now Andrew Thompson has opened Clark & Lake on Gillespie Place in Tollcross. There are boards of meats and cheeses are served with breads, crackers and oatcakes, with a choice of small plates including cauliflower frittelle, zucchini fries and a pork Scotch egg. The Shore Grill and Fish House in North Queensferry promises to have one of the best views in Scotland when the Queensferry Crossing opens. Menu options include short rib croquettas with smoked garlic aioli, fruits de mer, burrata and heritage tomatoes with pesto, apple mint and smoked whisky salt.
