MORVEN CHRISTIE ON WOMEN ON SCREEN

The Herald Magazine - - COVER STORY -

“I feel a responsibility for women. Particularly when projects are written and directed by men, I frequently find myself going: ‘No, I don’t believe that is truthful.’

“All actresses should be doing that now. The days of playing a generalised, pleasing wife character to whatever male role … we have got to put our feet down.

“It is fine for a character to be secondary in the story, but they can’t be a generalised or fantasy type wife/girlfriend character.

“We have to reach a point where we treat everyone like a whole human being. Otherwise what is the point?”
