The Bisexual 10pm, Channel 4

The Herald on Sunday - Sunday Herald Life - - Tv and Radio -

Like most things that are lucky enough to have her in them, this comedy drama, another tale of sex and the city among people with no money worries, benefits tremendously from the presence of Maxine Peake. The main focus, however, falls on Desiree Akhavan, who co-writes, directs and stars as Leila, a New Yorker in London. Leila’s in a steady relationship with her girlfriend Sadie (Peake), who is also her business partner in a fashion venture that’s getting a lot of attention. But Leila has a secret: she’s bisexual, and, when Sadie begins to make serious noises about them getting married and having children, she flees the seemingly perfect relationship and heads out to begin dating both women and men. It doesn’t quite have the personal vibe of something like Fleabag. But it does have Maxine Peake.
