View From My Window:
TV presenter Lorraine Kelly shares the sights from her home plus Let’s Move to ... Dunbar and the latest trendy chairs
ARE YOU SITTING COMFORTABLY?
Yes – on a big squashy sofa in my small Westminster flat, which is where I live during the week. It’s my little bolthole and very basic, but I’ve surrounded myself with photos of friends and family, crowded book shelves, memorabilia and lots of Jo Malone candles.
The living room is really comfortable – as well as the sofa, there is a small table and a couple of chairs where I can do my research and think up interview questions for my guests on the show.
I have a big TV as I’m a real square eyes and a news junkie. I zap between BBC, SKY and CNN and I tend to watch a lot of Netflix and pre-recorded stuff.
WHAT’S THE VIEW LIKE?
There’s not much of a view. I invested in wooden shutters so I couldn’t see into the flat directly opposite (and vice versa). Right now, there is a building site opposite, as more new flats are going up. It’s been very noisy and dusty for the past year but there’s nothing you can do about it. I can hear Big Ben chiming but sadly can’t see it, but it’s a fantastic central location. I can walk into Covent Garden, Soho and Oxford Street in around half an hour.
FAVOURITE PLACE NEARBY?
Balthazar in Covent Garden is my favourite place to eat, and my zumba class is right across the street. Very handy. It’s a real buzz-y area round here now.
PERFECT NIGHT IN?
During the week I really have to get to bed early. But sometimes, if I get my prep done in time, I have friends round for an early tea – something easy, like stir fry or chilli as I’m a very bad cook.
My kitchen is tiny, so I can’t be too adventurous, even if I did have the skills. But there’s nothing like sharing a meal and a laugh. It’s so important to keep in touch with your pals.
LAST THING YOU BOUGHT FOR YOUR HOME?
A massive wooden bookcase for under the window in the living room. Books were getting stacked up everywhere so I needed to get them all in one place.
IF I DIDN’T LIVE HERE, I’D WANT TO LIVE IN…
A cottage overlooking Scapa Flow on Orkney, so I could pop in to the The Foveran every night for a fabulous, fresh seafood dinner. I would visit every single one of the islands and yomp across them on long summer evenings and on winter nights, I’d sit in front of an open fire, writing…
