Jackie McNamara admitted he’s ‘embarrassed’ after his York City side crashed to their fifth defeat in a row since he took charge in a 6-0 hammering at Portsmouth.

The former Dundee United and Partick Thistle boss is just one game away from setting an unwanted club record as the hapless Minstermen close in on their worst ever losing streak of games.

They were crushed 6-0 at Fratton Park after collapsing when former Manchester United midfielder Jonathan Greening was sent off. “It ended up being an embarrassing scoreline and I feel for the fans who made that long journey,” said McNamara. “At an arena like Fratton Park, I would have loved it and been wanting the ball, so I’m very angry with the way we finished the game. I’ve put five players up for loan. We have too many players at the club and making room for new ones is a necessity.”
