Missing harrier could still be alive
A YOUNG hen harrier that was missing, presumed dead, is now thought to be alive.
The female bird, named Highlander, went missing in County Durham in April last year. The bird of prey was presumed dead after its electronic tag “suddenly and unaccountably” stopped transmitting.
But a bird matching Highlander’s description exactly has now reappeared at one of Highlander’s favourite wintering grounds.
Blánaid Denman, manager of the RSPB’s Hen Harrier LIFE+ Project, said he is “elated” the bird may have been found.
