Fire attacks in flats may be linked, officers believe

POLICE in Aberdeen believe two fires set deliberately early yesterday are connected.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland received reports of a small fire on the landing of a block of flats at North Anderson Drive at about 1.20am. Emergency services were alerted to another fire 10 minutes later on the landing of a block of flats at Midstocket View. No injuries were reported from either incident.

Inspector Jon Millar said: “Inquiries are at an early stage, however we believe these incidents are linked and I would appeal for anyone with information to contact police.

“Thankfully, no-one was injured and everyone accounted for. However I can’t stress enough the dangers of starting fires within residential properties, you don’t know how the situation will develop.

“It goes without saying that the consequences of such reckless behaviour could have fatal consequences.”
