We’re in for a bumpy year

THE pres­i­dent-elect’s dis­cor­dant press con­fer­ence was graph­i­cally de­scribed by a com­men­ta­tor as “the­atre of the ab­surd”. Don­ald Trump has suc­ceeded in alien­at­ing and ma­lign­ing both the me­dia and the United States in­tel­li­gence ser­vices be­fore his pres­i­dency has even be­gun (“Trump slams ‘fake news’ as he hits out CIA and FBI”, The Her­ald, Jan­uary 12).

Jan­uary 28 wel­comes the Chi­nese Year of the Rooster. Will Jan­uary 20 in theUSher­aldtheYearoftheTwit? Ron­ald J Sand­ford, 1 Scott Gar­den, Kings­barns, Fife. DAVID Stub­ley may not be far off the mark when he avers that the high pro­file cam­paign against pres­i­den­t­elect Don­ald Trump was pre­dictable (Let­ters, Jan­uary 13 ).
