Stur­geon urged to stop care clo­sures

their jobs were at risk when let­ters were sent to res­i­dents re­veal­ing the clo­sure.

John Gal­lacher, the Uni­son trade union’s Scot­tish or­gan­iser, said the char­ity’s man­age­ment needed to ex­plain what he called a dis­as­trous de­ci­sion.

The char­ity has said the homes sin­gled out are no longer vi­able and will close within months, af­fect­ing around 160 frail res­i­dents and mak­ing 200 care work­ers re­dun­dant. Mr Gal­lacher said: “Ni­cola Stur­geon must in­ter­vene and ask how Bield Hous­ing’s man­age­ment team got them­selves into this po­si­tion. They must be held ac­count­able.”

A Scot­tish Govern­ment spokesman said it was “en­gag­ing” with the Care In­spec­torate on res­i­dents’ needs.
