First pub­lic out­ing for cap­ti­vat­ing art

gow which be­gins next month. The art­works cho­sen for the ex­hi­bi­tion, en­ti­tled Nar­ra­tive, were sub­mit­ted to the 2017 Koestler Awards, a scheme which recog­nises artis­tic tal­ent in pris­ons and se­cure homes.

Along­side tra­di­tional paint­ings and sculp­tures, will be needle­craft, poetry, films and “nail art” which was sub­mit­ted from a women’s prison.

Ms Fa­gan, who has cu­rated the ex­hi­bi­tion, has de­scribed some of the work as “phe­nom­e­nal”.

She added: “The chance to prac­tise art should be avail­able to ev­ery­one in the prison sys­tem, it can be a vi­tal part of their re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion.

“The ex­hi­bi­tion will get peo­ple to think beyond their ideas of who pris­on­ers are.”
