Violent attacker on bail guilty of raping former partner who later committed suicide
Ryan Graham, 27, carried out the violent attack on the woman at her home in Irvine, North Ayrshire, in March following a row – days after he was given bail for the earlier offence. Graham had been ordered not to go near her.
The woman committed suicide during the police investigation, but a letter with the harrowing details was discovered in her home. In it the 34-year-old woman described the attack by her former boyfriend. Graham denied the charges and claimed anything that happened between them sexually on the day of consensual.
Before the sex assault he told police when questioned about the first attack: “I’m not a beast.”
After a trial at the High
was Court in Glasgow, Graham from Ayrshire was unanimously convicted of a violent and sexual assault on March 8 and raping the victim on March 10, while he was on bail. Graham smirked in the dock when the verdict was read and gave a “thumbs up” sign to his family.
Judge Sean Murphy QC deferred sentence and Graham was remanded.
