CONSERVATIVE MP Sarah Wollaston has been elected chairwoman of the parliamentary committee that questions the

Prime Minister on public policy.

The often independent-minded Ms Wollaston will chair the Commons Liaison Committee, which is due to hold an evidence session with Theresa May on December 20.

It is made up of the chairmen and women of all other select committees and usually takes evidence from the PM three times a year.

Health Committee chairwoman Ms Wollaston said she was delighted with her new post, adding: “I hope to use my time as chair to strengthen the role of select committees and the valuable role they play on behalf of the public.”
