Intimidating scenes as balaclava-clad Rangers fans march before derby clash
HUNDREDS joined in a march organised by a group of Rangers “ultras” yesterday, which took place ahead of an Old Firm derby that saw Celtic triumph in Govan.
At Ibrox, Celtic won 3-2 after being reduced to 10 men in a typically tempestuous encounter.
And just a few hours later, Celtic star Scott Sinclair was reportedly verbally abused by passengers in an incident at Glasgow Airport.
But, earlier in the day, the controversial march featured balaclava-clad fans singing celebratory Rangers songs, that also included offensive chants.
A flyer plugging the event – organised by fans’ group Union Bears – showed a silhouette image of a figure in a green-and-white hooped jersey being kicked in the head while lying on the ground, with the image surrounded by text that read: “Good night, green white.”
On the pitch, the result saw Celtic increase their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table to nine points, with a game in hand.
They twice came back from a goal down and then lost Jozo Simunovic to a red card before substitute Odsonne Edouard scored the winning goal.
Police Scotland said six people were arrested after the match for minor public order offences.
A spokesman for Glasgow Airport said: “We are aware of an incident in the BA lounge.
“Police were called and three individuals were removed from the flight and the airport.”
Mr Sinclair was able to continue with his flight.
