‘I’m off to Boston’ says Herald winner
HERALD reader Elizabeth Caldwell has enjoyed a belated 78th birthday present courtesy of her favourite newspaper after winning flights worth £3,000 to any one of 23 destinations in north America.
The retired bank worker, from Lanark, said it was “quite a surprise” winning the business class flights, provided by Icelandair and Glasgow Airport, and plans to visit Boston this autumn.
“I quite fancied going back to San Francisco but I’ve been there three times,” said the grandmother of seven.
“So it was Boston or New York, and I fancy Boston in the autumn.”
Mrs Caldwell will be joined on her trip by her husband John, who is another avid reader of
“We have four children and seven grandchildren so it would be nice if you could hire a plane for them too!”
Once prolific in entering competitions, Mrs Caldwell has been forced to slow down due to the migration of many contests online.
“I will tell you why I did it,” she said.
“I used to like doing competitions, but they are all online now.
“It is a while since I’ve done any competitions.
And she added: “I was 78 the other week there, so I thought I would try this and maybe I’ll get it for my birthday.”
Ms Caldwell will jet off from Glasgow Airport on her premium north American holiday.
Elizabeth Caldwell is delighted to read all about it after winning The Herald Icelandair flights competition.
