Sol­diers held for air­port fight

TWO sol­diers have ap­peared in court in Cape Verde af­ter be­ing ar­rested for brawl­ing.

The men were part of a group of troops bound for the Falk­land Is­lands, but found them­selves off the north-west coast of Africa when their plane de­vel­oped a fault.

It is un­der­stood they had been drink­ing be­fore the in­ci­dent hap­pened, and were ar­rested by po­lice.

Those in­volved in the trou­ble now face dis­ci­plinary ac­tion.

An Army spokesman said: “We can con­firm two sol­diers have ap­peared in court in Cape Verde and have been fined.

“Any­one found to have fallen short of the Army’s high stan­dards will be dealt with ad­min­is­tra­tively and may face sanc­tions up to and in­clud­ing dis­missal.”
