Snow joke! Now that’s a turnaround!
HOW do you stop a run of ten straight defeats stretching back to October? If it’s St Neots Ladies 3s then a mix of snow and a returning captain provided the winning combination.
The Huntingdonshire outfit lost several players pre-season, but rallied to win three of their first five matches before their barren run began.
Their form had improved over the last two weeks with one-goal defeats to the first and second placed teams in the league.
Arguably these were better performances than how they played on Saturday against Ely HC but a 7-0 win subsequently stopped the losing run in fine fashion.
Two hat-tricks from Jay Dickinson and Chris Deeks set the tone with Cerys James, the player of the match, also getting in on the act.
Captain Ali ButlerBaines, playing her first game back after having a baby, said: “It was a great game, played in the snow. We played an attacking game, and didn’t get complacent when we were 5-0 up at half time.”
The club’s third team is made up of a mix of social, older and freshfaced players
Press officer Gareth Thomas said: “Up until last season they were bolstered by a number of young players who helped the team to some strong finishes in a very strong East League Div 4NW(S).
“At the start of the season the club felt that the number of young players and back to hockey players coming through justified starting a fourth team.
“To provide consistency for the younger players, our new fourth team has been kept together.
“It’s paying off as they're top of Five Counties League Div 5!”
