Five-star Surbiton are just too hot for
THE League and Cup double is still on after a thrashing of Bowdon Hightown on Sunday, and scorer Abi Robinson believes Surbiton’s free-scoring superstars are not going to let up any time soon.
The south-west London side booked their third Investec Women’s Cup final appearance in four years with a dominant performance at Bowdon, and now will look forward to a clash against Clifton Robinsons in the showpiece final.
The home side struggled to cope with Surbiton’s superior stick skills and direct running all afternoon, particularly those of Hannah Martin.
Robinson scored twice inside the opening 20 minutes, with Georgie Twigg adding the third shortly after and Naomi Evans put- ting the result beyond doubt just before half-time.
Martin capped a sublime performance by scoring Surbiton’s fifth late in the second half, with Bowdon improving defensively after the break, and Robinson admits the team now are in the perfect frame of mind for the Premier Division play-offs – with the University of Birmingham lying in wait on April 22.
“It was a really good team performance,” she said. “We got a couple of goals in the opening 15 minutes which I think helped us build up our play.
“We’re quite an attacking team, in that second half we went three at the back and put one player into the midfield.
