Five-star Sur­biton are just too hot for

THE League and Cup dou­ble is still on af­ter a thrash­ing of Bow­don Hightown on Sun­day, and scorer Abi Robin­son be­lieves Sur­biton’s free-scor­ing su­per­stars are not go­ing to let up any time soon.

The south-west Lon­don side booked their third In­vestec Women’s Cup fi­nal ap­pear­ance in four years with a dom­i­nant per­for­mance at Bow­don, and now will look for­ward to a clash against Clifton Robin­sons in the show­piece fi­nal.

The home side strug­gled to cope with Sur­biton’s su­pe­rior stick skills and di­rect run­ning all af­ter­noon, par­tic­u­larly those of Han­nah Martin.

Robin­son scored twice in­side the open­ing 20 min­utes, with Ge­orgie Twigg adding the third shortly af­ter and Naomi Evans put- ting the re­sult be­yond doubt just be­fore half-time.

Martin capped a sub­lime per­for­mance by scor­ing Sur­biton’s fifth late in the sec­ond half, with Bow­don im­prov­ing de­fen­sively af­ter the break, and Robin­son ad­mits the team now are in the per­fect frame of mind for the Premier Di­vi­sion play-offs – with the Univer­sity of Birm­ing­ham ly­ing in wait on April 22.

“It was a re­ally good team per­for­mance,” she said. “We got a cou­ple of goals in the open­ing 15 min­utes which I think helped us build up our play.

“We’re quite an at­tack­ing team, in that sec­ond half we went three at the back and put one player into the mid­field.
