Restaurants pay to be Pokemon Go destinations
Some pubs and restaurants have paid up to £100 a day to be Pokemon Go destinations in a bid to lure gamers through their doors. In a new trade dubbed 'Pokémonomics', some businesses have seen a dramatic rise in the number of customers and turnover.
The London burger restaurant Maxwell's said its revenues had risen 26 per cent since buying 'lures' which attract Pokemon, bringing in an 2,750 additional customers to the grill, and an extra £70,000. It's marketing manager Anthony Knight told eat out magazine: 'It's incredible how everyone has reacted to the game.'
Man dies in clay pigeon shooting accident
A man died in a suspected accident at a clay pigeon shooting club event near Downpatrick yesterday. Police are investigating the circumstances. PSNI Detective Inspector Will Tate said: "A man aged in his
60s died after a firearm was discharged." He added: "We will be conducting a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this death, but initial enquiries would indicate this to be a tragic accident."
Pair of 200-year-old bibles stolen from church
A pair of bibles up to 200 years old and two foot long have been stolen from a church in Abercorn near South Queensferry. The bibles were lent to the church by the Hopetoun family, who own the Hopetoun House stately home and 6,500 acre estate in West Lothian. Lord Hopetoun said : "To be confronted now with the theft of these irreplaceable pulpit bibles is deeply sad." Constable Andrew Young said: "Both bibles hold considerable value not only in monetary terms but also have historic significance for the local community."
