AS ISRAEL’S only national ambulance a n d medical emergency service, Magen David Adom responds to over 600,000 calls a year with a fleet of 900 vehicles including 750 ambulances at 119 stations across the length and breadth of the country. Its workforce of 13,600 comprises 12,000 volunteers, making it Israel’s largest voluntary organisation and ensuring that every pound raised is used as productively as possible.
It is not only ambulances and emergency response that Magen David Adom provides. The organisation also collects and supplies 300,000 units of blood each year for the people of Israel and is responsible for all Israel’s first aid and pre-hospital medical emergency training.
It is with this experience that now, for the first time ever, Magen David Adom UK has launched First Aid courses for the Jewish community in the UK — free of charge. Already schools and organisations across the country have taken advantage of MDA’s life-saving expertise. The courses, generously sponsored by donors keen to see MDA sharing its knowledge globally, are aimed at providing basic life-saving and recovery skills over a two-hour session.
Magen David Adom also works internationally to share its support and expertise with those in need around the world. As a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Magen David Adom has helped in New Orleans, Indonesia, Haiti and countless other locations in need of urgent support. Recently, a direct approach was made to MDA UK by the Israeli Ambassador to South Sudan to help deliver vital medical supplies to a country impoverished by civil war. In order to make this happen MDA UK part- nered with International Health Partners (IHP), a charity dedicated to improving access to healthcare and medicines in the developing world.
The work of Magen David Adom UK takes place in order to raise funds for everything from disposable medical equipment such as gauzes through to defibrillators, ambulances, bloodmobiles and even stations. The contribution from thousands of supporters in the UK cannot be underestimated. There are entire regions of Israel that would not have fully functioning ambulance stations were it not for the generosity of people like you. The equipment purchased and infrastructure built benefits all Israel’s citizens — Arabs, Christians, Druze and Jews. Magen David Adom saves lives wherever lives need saving. Magen David Adom UK enables this to happen.
Magen David Adom is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation. For nearly 65 years, MDA UK has been raising funds and awareness so Magen David Adom can save more lives in Israel.
