THE 1960s obsession with all things space-age culminated in fashion’s adoption of shiny plastics, metallic and patent leather finishes. This love of all things shiny is again echoed in spring accessories. Both metal bracelet watches (Guess has superb ones in rose gold), enamel, mesh and chain jewellery are having a revival, while foil-coated fabrics are used for everything from headbands to handbags.

Patent leather handbags and shoes, or cheaper plastic alternatives, give the right 1960s vibe, along with vibrant hoop earrings and fun plastic jewellery, a good contrast to mono colours. Check out Ted Baker and Marks & Spencer for ideas. It’s an easy look to imitate, so have some fun with it — as long as you didn’t wear it the first time around.
