Follow that bear! T

HINKING OF giving your children or grandchildren their first experience of live theatre this summer?

Parents and grandparents no longer have to endure the clumsy rituals of pantomime, as children are now catered for with their own West End productions in miniature. We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, the stage production of Michael Rosen’s read-aloud classic, a good example of the breed, will be at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue in London’s West End, from July 3 until September 1.

The show, created by Sally Cookson, is a mix of “music, laughter, songs, rhythms, rhymes and repeti- tions; with puppetry, paints, water and mud, not to mention a bear” (we’re not scared). Music is by Benji Bower. Says Michael Rosen, echoing the refrain from the book: ‘’This production takes everyone on the journey — not under, not over, oh no — through it! — in a funny, exuberant and loving way. It’s a show full of laughter, music, silliness and thrills.”
