The Jewish Chronicle - - COMMENT&ANALYSIS/ -

The “truth of the Islamic awakening” was conveyed last week by the supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamene’i, in a message to Hajj pilgrims “The American government, the domineering capitalism of the West and the corrupt Zionist political lobbyists have begun to sense the living truth of the Islamic awakening, and by admitting that their military might is useless against this truth, they are using all their power to employ political ploys and tactics. “The entire Muslim ummah, whether the political, cultural and religious elite, or the masses of people, must remain vigilant more than ever before, and try to identify and foil the conniving schemes of the enemy… The concept of the West especially after being led by the US, through its flagrant acts of oppression and endlessly arrogant and illogical behaviour, is now clearly seen as an antivalue in the Islamic world. “Their treatment of the Palestinian people compared to their treatment of the bloodthirsty Zionist regime, their position with respect to the admission of the Zionist regime on possession of nuclear weapons against their position on civilian use of nuclear energy by Iran... and even open defamation of Islam by high-ranking authorities in the West, including the Pope, while making any inquiry into and questioning of Holocaust or the formation of the Zionist regime a punishable offence. “All the hullabaloo on the war on terror while clandestinely talking with and supporting brutal terrorists in Iraq. A profound and deep-rooted movement has begun in the Islamic world. This movement will lead to the independence, dignity and rejuvenation of the Muslim ummah.” (Source: The Iranian IRNA news agency website, Tehran, in English, December 29) In a sermon from the holy mosque in Mecca, Shaykh Muhammad Bin-Salih Al Talib called for an end to in-fighting among Muslims “What shall we say to our brothers in Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and other volatile Islamic countries which are impregnable to enemies but are lost in their differences? Each Muslim is pained by his brethren Muslims fighting one another while the enemy is watching them happily. “[Hail] the liberation of Afghanistan, the defeat of the Zionists in Lebanon, the departure of the enemy from Gaza Strip, and the failure of the usurper in Iraq… Muslims must patch up their differences and place public welfare over selfishness. “Leaders and ulema should do everything they can to end the letting of Muslims’ blood. [I ask God to] strengthen Islam, to support Muslims, to humiliate atheism and atheists, to destroy the enemies of the religion, to save Al-Aqsa Mosque from Jews, to protect the two holy mosques, and to give success to the Saudi leaders.” (Source: Saudi TV1, in Arabic, December 22)
