…is a leading light among UK composers
INSPIRED AS a little boy by the Star Wars theme tune, 35-year-old Alex Heffes has grown up to become one of the UK’s most successful film music composers. If you see the Oscar-tipped film The Last King of Scotland, it will be his musical score that you listen to.
Born to a Sephardic Egyptian family, Mr Heffes tells People: “I love composing and was lucky to be aided early on in my career by the Academy for Young Jewish Artists, which offered me financial support.
“I love the opportunity to compose music, whether it be jazz, pop or orchestral. It’s so enjoyable; it’s not like a job.” Mr Heffes also wrote the music for the Oscar-winning feature documentary One Day In September and the Bafta-winning Touching the Void.
