Ken’s invite

The Jewish Chronicle - - Comment & Analysis -

JOSEPH FELD (Letters, January 12) argues that as academic conferences can take place during the week, the “Clash of Civilisations” conference should be held on a weekday. But this is a public event open to all, and most public conferences take place on Saturdays. We are sensitive to the fact that observers of the Jewish Sabbath cannot attend events on Saturdays, which is why the conference has been extended until after the Sabbath.

A session scheduled after sunset, entitled “Multicultural London — Does it Work?”, will include journalist Jonathan Freedland and cultural commentator Agnes Poirier. I hope that Jewish Londoners will be encouraged to participate. Ken Livingstone Mayor of London, London SE1
