Israeli FA to get tough
ISRAEL’S deputy state prosecutor, Shai Nitzan, has instructed the Israeli FA (IFA) to punish clubs whose fans persistently indulge in racist chanting.
The decision follows talks with New Israel Fund officials, who launched the initiative in Tel Aviv last year, on the ideal of new legislation outlawing racist chanting at football matches.
The IFA have been instructed to impose fines, order matches to be played behind closed doors and deduct points from certain teams.
Nitzan has also written to police reminding them of their duty to arrest fans caught in the act of racism.
