A 96-YEAR-OLD Auschwitz survivor was honoured at an interfaith Holocaust memorial event in Tower Hamlets on Sunday.

Leon Greenman attended the Jewish East End Celebration Society’s commemoration at East London Central Synagogue, having had a pacemaker fitted following a heart attack less than two months ago.

Mr Greenman, who related his experiences to an audience of 100, told the JC afterwards: “I am not well yet, but didn’t want to miss this. I made a promise to myself in 1943 that if God would take me out of the camps, I would go and tell the outside world about what was done to us. I have been talking for 60 years to dozens and dozens of schools. It is my fight against racism, against the Nazis.”
