REP­RE­SEN­TA­TIVES OF the Euro­pean Jewish Congress held talks in Ankara with Turk­ish Prime Min­is­ter Re­cep Tayyip Er­do­gan and For­eign Min­is­ter Ab­dul­lah Gul. To­gether with rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the Turk­ish Jewish com­mu­nity, the del­e­ga­tion dis­cussed re­la­tions be­tween Turkey and Is­rael and asked Mr Er­do­gan to re­quest proof from the Pales­tini­ans that cap­tured IDF sol­dier Gi­lad Shalit is alive and well. “We are in Ankara to­day to stress the sta­bil­is­ing role Turkey plays in the re­gion,” said EJC pres­i­dent Pierre Bes­nainou.
