MEP ‘DE­NIED SHOAH’

A FAR-RIGHT French mem­ber of the Euro­pean Par­lia­ment has been con­victed of Holo­caust de­nial. Bruno Goll­nisch, sec­ond-in­com­mand of the Front Na­tional and a mem­ber of a new EU right-wing bloc called Iden­tity, Tra­di­tion and Sovereignty, said he would ap­peal against a three-month sus­pended prison sen­tence and ¤5,000 fine for re­marks he made in Oc­to­ber 2004.

ANTI-RACIST RAP­PER

HIP-HOP EN­TRE­PRE­NEUR Rus­sell Sim­mons ad­dressed the World Jewish Congress in New York this week on ways to com­bat dis­crim­i­na­tion. Along­side rap­per Jay-Z, he stars in a new se­ries of anti-racism com­mer­cials. He called on Jewish acts such as the Beastie Boys to join him in mak­ing a sim­i­lar pub­lic-ser­vice an­nounce­ment on Is­lam­o­pho­bia.

YE­MENI JEWS FLEE

SOME 45 Ye­meni Jews have fled their homes in Sa’ada af­ter be­ing threat­ened by a rad­i­cal Mus­lim group. Ye­hiye David Mer­chavi told Is­rael Ra­dio that they had left their homes out of fear for their lives and moved into a ho­tel in Sa’ada, where they are be­ing guarded at the Yemini gov­ern­ment’s ex­pense. Around 300 to 350 Jews are thought to still live in Ye­men.
