MEP ‘DENIED SHOAH’
A FAR-RIGHT French member of the European Parliament has been convicted of Holocaust denial. Bruno Gollnisch, second-incommand of the Front National and a member of a new EU right-wing bloc called Identity, Tradition and Sovereignty, said he would appeal against a three-month suspended prison sentence and ¤5,000 fine for remarks he made in October 2004.
HIP-HOP ENTREPRENEUR Russell Simmons addressed the World Jewish Congress in New York this week on ways to combat discrimination. Alongside rapper Jay-Z, he stars in a new series of anti-racism commercials. He called on Jewish acts such as the Beastie Boys to join him in making a similar public-service announcement on Islamophobia.
YEMENI JEWS FLEE
SOME 45 Yemeni Jews have fled their homes in Sa’ada after being threatened by a radical Muslim group. Yehiye David Merchavi told Israel Radio that they had left their homes out of fear for their lives and moved into a hotel in Sa’ada, where they are being guarded at the Yemini government’s expense. Around 300 to 350 Jews are thought to still live in Yemen.
