Golda Ols­berg

MUCH LOVED by all sec­tions of the Manch­ester Jewish and wider com­mu­nity, Golda Ols­berg was fully in­volved in her hus­band’s com­mu­nal du­ties.

Born Golda Lands­berg in Lon­don’s East End, she was in­tro­duced to Manch­ester-born Les­lie Ols­berg by her late sis­ter, Fay, whose hus­band, Rev Sam Wolf­son, mar­ried the cou­ple in Liv- er­pool in 1951. Golda be­came de­voted to Manch­ester and the com­mu­nity, in turn, em­braced her. She was reb­bet­zen at Heaton Park shul for 33 years.

She chaired the Greater Manch­ester Syn­a­gogues Ladies Guilds, sup­ported the 1970s Women’s Cam­paign for Soviet Jewry, and was ac­tive in the Girl Guides, the League of Jewish Women and Heaton Park Ladies’ Guild.

She is sur­vived by her hus­band, three daugh­ters, and nine grand­chil­dren.
