ISRAEL Baseball League (IBL) president Larry Baras has revealed that “all is going to plan” ahead of the inaugural professional season starting June 24. Baras, 54, who has been working on the project for more than two years, told JC Sport: “We are on schedule and our contacts in Israel are bending over backwards to continue our excellent progress. We also have the best possible people working at this end and without them, we would not be in such a strong position.” A long-standing supporter of the Washington Senators baseball team, the Boston resident is confident the league will be a success. “I am certain it will work and the response in the US has been absolutely fantastic. I have received thousands of emails and letters offering support, and when you consider the fact that baseball has never been that popular in Israel, the response over there has been extremely positive as well.” In terms of players joining the league, “we are currently negotiating the contracts of several players from around the globe. Most of them will be Jewish, but there will be exceptions as we want to be known as an international league of choice.”
