HERE IS some news for those who have seen the current, superb Donmar production of Jason Robert Brown’s Parade, based on the true story of Leo Frank, a Jewish factory owner falsely convicted of murdering a girl in Atlanta in 1913.
Notebook has learned that cast recording will be released later this month.
The cast recording is a strange niche in the music industry. With each song you try to imagine the appropriate scene, without which most musical music only half-works. Whereas with opera no such barrier exists.
Notebook would be grateful for any theories as to why this should be so.
