The Jewish Chronicle - - COMMENT&ANALYSIS -

Professor Ian Tomlinson, of Cancer Research UK, has missed the central argument about his team’s research into bowel cancer ( Letters, November 2).

He has failed to furnish the readers with a valid reason why he has selected the small Ashkenazi community to identify unknown genes, since it would be more logical to screen the larger general population. Further, we challenge him to present a single published paper that recommends routine screening for the APCI1307K gene mutation, as genetic screening for colorectal cancer is unrewarding.

We appeal to interested parties to tolerate healthy individuals enjoying life and abstain from stimulating them to imagine that they may develop cancer. Rabbi JJ Rosner Jewish Cancer Counselling Centre Rookwood Road, London N16
