Churchill Retirement Living Customers choose an easier way to move

MR AND MRS PALMER found the ‘Home Exchange Service’ suited them perfectly when they moved from their Basingstoke home to a new Churchill Retirement Living apartment in Hampshire.

Selling a house and buying a new home is a stressful procedure at any time of life. For those of retirement age, who may have been out of the property market for some years, it can be rather more of a shock to the system. Understanding this, Churchill Retirement Living has devised a number of services to help make the move as smooth and hassle free as possible. One of these, called ‘Home Exchange’, was an option which Richard and Barbara Palmer were happy to take up when they downsized and purchased a new one bedroom apartment at Churchill Retirement Living’s Andrews Lodge, in Lymington. Early retirement for Richard and Barbara Palmer led to a complete re-think of their lifestyle. The couple had been living in a bungalow in Basingstoke for 14 years but were beginning to find the upkeep of the house and garden more of a chore than a pleasure. With their four children grown up the Palmers were free to go where they chose – and they picked the coastal market town of Lymington. They love Lymington for its casual, friendly atmosphere and proximity to the lovely New Forest countryside, and viewed two Churchill Retirement Living developments in the area before deciding on Andrews Lodge. Through Churchill Retirement Living’s ‘Home Exchange Service’, Richard and Barbara elected to use the services of Quick Move Properties who purchased their bungalow in Basingstoke after three valuations and a survey. “This was very useful in removing the anxiety of selling the property without the business of chasing the agents to secure the sale,” said Richard. “This really appealed to my wife as she did not want the hassle of having the necessary viewings.” This service also offers financial help by eliminating estate agents fees – a very welcome saving in the expensive moving process. Another service provided by Churchill Retirement Living was the ‘Moving made Easy’ provision for the packing, removal and delivery of all household goods. With this service, the Company looks after the whole moving process from booking the removal company right through to unpacking your possessions including fragile items as required. The Customer does not need to pack anything, get any quotes, worry about any costs or panic over the removal date. Everything is taken care of by Churchill Retirement Living. However Richard Palmer, an ex army man, says, “We are well used to packing and did 80% of the packing ourselves.” The Company also recommended a local solicitor in Lymington which the Palmers found extremely useful. The Palmers were in their new home in a surprisingly fast seven weeks from first deciding to purchase, with a sale achieved satisfactorily on their old home. “We were genuinely amazed at how quickly it all happened,” says Richard. He describes the apartment as “spacious and comfortable, with a fully equipped kitchen. We chose the apartment especially for its view over the gardens and the playing fields,” he says. Churchill Retirement Living developments can be found in carefully selected locations in the UK, all of which offer the very best of local amenities and shopping, together with independence, security and 24-hour support and help when required. This aspect is one that the Palmers appreciate, although, as Richard says with some amusement, “I think the family worry more about our security than we do! But it is nice to know we can go on holiday, close the door and be assured that everything will be looked after. There’s a good social life here too, a friendly group of similar age people with coffee mornings and games afternoons.” For more information on Churchill Retirement Living please visit www.churchillretirement.co.uk or alternatively call 0800 458 1839.
