The name­less spokesman for the food re­tailer Yar­den who stated that “one week they tell you it’s healthy to eat meat, and the next week it’s not” ( JC, Novem­ber 9) is wrong when it comes to smoked meat.

The po­ten­tial health risk caused by eat­ing meats and fish that have been cured by smok­ing has been well-doc­u­mented since the 1970s. The re­cent re­port of the World Can­cer Re­search Fund only serves to re­it­er­ate this. Kay Bagon Home­field Road, Radlett WD7
